IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Delmar "D.L."
Varner
December 12, 1929 – February 17, 2025
Delmar Lloyd Varner, born on December 12, 1929, in Coleman, Texas, passed away on February 17, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Delmar grew up on a farm near Desdemona, Texas, where he developed a strong work ethic from an early age. He became skilled in operating various types of farm equipment and raising livestock; experiences that shaped his lifelong dedication to hard work and perseverance.
As a young adult, Delmar joined the U.S. Army and served in Korea in 1951. He was responsible for managing food supplies for hundreds of troops and took great pride in ensuring they had access to special treats whenever possible. One of his favorite traditions was making ice cream in multiple flavors each week for the troops.
Upon returning to Texas, Delmar began working at Convair, which later became General Dynamics in Fort Worth. He dedicated 35 years to the company's logistics department, overseeing the supply of spare parts for aircraft. Through hard work and commitment, he rose to lead his department and earned numerous awards recognizing his service and dedication.
Delmar was a longtime resident of Benbrook, Texas, before later settling in North Richland Hills. He cherished time spent with family and was always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a listening ear when needed. He had a deep love for travel and enjoyed visiting new places as well as reconnecting with loved ones. A gifted storyteller, he often shared tales of his adventures and fond memories from his early years on the family farm—stories that brought joy to those around him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife: Glenda S. Varner; siblings: Dorse "Tobe" Varner, Debra Smallwood, Dennis Varner, Dewayne Varner and daughter Patty Varner Kelly.
Delmar is survived by his children: Phillip D. Varner, and Teresa R. Clark; grandchildren: Scott Kelly, April Lewis, Jake Barnes, and Kevin Barnes; as well as eight great-grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of warmth and kindness.
His life was filled with laughter, love, and cherished moments with family. Now reunited with Glenda and those he missed dearly, may his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
