Obituary

Leah Ruth (Hogan) Keyes, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed from this earth at home on November 15, 2024. Leah was born August 25, 1945, to Claude and Blanche Hogan in Fairbury, Illinois. She adored her parents and older siblings, Delores and Claude, and later doted on her younger brother Dan.

She was an active member of Job's Daughters from ages 12 to 21. Graduating from Wilmington High School in 1963, she attended Humboldt Business Institute in Minneapolis before moving to Chicago to begin her professional career.

While employed outside Joliet, Illinois, she met the man who would become the love of her life. Leah married Jim Keyes on June 14, 1969, and they embarked on their journey together. Their expeditions led them to Texas, then Wisconsin, and back to Texas, where they welcomed two children, Jana and Darren.

In 1979, they moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, where Leah dedicated herself to raising her children and enriching her community. She volunteered in her children's schools and at church, and made lifelong friends, cherishing her role as a stay-at-home parent. Leah was especially proud of her work creating student curriculum and bulletin boards for Huntington Park Church of Christ.

In 1991, the family returned to Texas, and Leah began her career at Texas Christian University, serving as administrative assistant to former Fort Worth Mayor Bob Bolen. It was during this season that she became a "bonus mom" to her nephew Jake. In 2014, she was honored with The Fort Worth Administrative Professional of the Year Award. She retired from TCU in 2016.

Leah brought much love and joy to the world. She had a well-earned beautiful smile, and delighted in greeting and welcoming others. She was a woman of order, wore colorful clothes, was an excellent cook, and emphasized the practice of gratitude. She was adept at staying in touch with family and friends, corresponding via phone calls and her annual Christmas letters. She was a Jesus-follower whose faith was foundational for her. She spoke heartfelt, eloquent prayers, and was a faithful member at several congregations, most recently Altamesa Church of Christ. She was a detailed storyteller, exceptional listener, loyal friend, steadfast partner to Jim for 55 years, devoted mother, and proud grandmother.

She is survived by husband, Jim Keyes; daughter, Jana Keyes; son, Darren Keyes and wife Julia; nephew, Jake Hogan and wife Amanda; and grandchildren, Rowan Young, Skylar Young, Larkin Young, Daniel Keyes, Noah Keyes, Samuel Keyes, Caroline Keyes, Rebekah Keyes, and Helen Keyes; brother, Claude Hogan and wife Marilyn; brother, Dan Hogan, and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Delores.

Leah will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate to know her. We trust she is now embraced and at peace in the arms of God.
